Abstract

Power outages are a major problem in Mali, affecting daily life and the country's economy. They paralyse economic activity, compromise food and medicine preservation, and make living conditions difficult, especially during periods of intense heat. Citizens often express their ideas and opinions on social media, including YouTube. In this context, Malian citizens frequently voice their frustration and concerns on various social media platforms, particularly YouTube. The videos and comments on this platform offer a unique opportunity to collect and analyse public opinion on power outages. This study, therefore, aims to conduct sentiment analysis of YouTube comments on power outages in Mali. Using sentiment analysis, such as the Vader-Bert model, we collected and analysed data gathered from a YouTube channel. The results reveal a predominance of neutral comments, followed by negative and positive sentiments. This distribution indicates moderate dissatisfaction among users, without suggesting overwhelmingly negative or positive opinions. These results are important for energy suppliers and public policymakers, as they show the need to better meet consumer expectations for electricity services.
